HOKKIEN CONSERVATION SCHOOL    2021

The Hokkien dialect declining in speakers has endangered the language. Everything making up the dialect’s essence will pass away along with it, this includes its’ unique sounds when spoken, no longer heard. After all, things that are dead can no longer make sounds. As beings who exist, it is our natural responsibility to ensure the dialect’s continuity.

The Hokkien Conservation School conserves Hokkien through the facilitation of self-directed learning in a spontaneous manner among the younger generation, out of the sense of responsibility and belonging to Singapore’s culture. In the long run, it ensures and insures the continuity and existence of the Hokkien dialect through generations that are familiar with speaking it, making it a thriving culture.

The Hokkien Conservation School’s emblem consists of the word ‘Hokkien’ in the school’s tonal characters, encircled by a mouth, that represents speaking. The logo was hand-drawn on a stone floor to give it a sincere and natural vibe.

Tonal Characters System

The Hokkien Conservation School has created a system to teach Hokkien dialect. This simplifies the learning process by making words easier to remember.
(Hokkien originally does not have a writing system.)


Textbook Issue
  

Textbook Issues are released monthly by topic. New Hokkien words and living creatures are to be learnt and conserved with each issue.

Helps new students understand the character system that the school uses to teach Hokkien.

Student Portal Website  

The Student Portal contains interactive learning content that cannot be found in its' textbook issues, consisting of simpler topics such as numbers or colours.
